Flag Day in the United States is celebrated on June 14 th and commemorates the adoption of the stars and stripes in 1777. Officially it was president Wilson who decided on a day to celebrate the flag, back in 1916, and today people celebrate the day with parades. Appleton in Wisconsin has been named “Most Patriotic City in America”, partly because of its annual flag day parade, held since 1950, the oldest National Flag Day parade in the US. So with this day coming up, we decided to put together some creative ways that you can display the flag on this day!
1. Hit the beach
Why not don a nice flag-themed bikini on a day out at the beach? What better way to celebrate the day than having fun in the waves? If you don’t live next to a beach, check out local pools or lakes that are good to swim in. Everyone loves to splash in the sunshine!
2. Walk the walk
You can walk the patriotic walk with these kicks on Flag Day. Original and cute! They’re also subtle enough to be able to wear year-round. We think they would make a great DIY project if you’re the crafty type.
3. Shake that booty!
These cute cut-off jean shorts seem like a great DIY project for you and your girlfriends. Super easy to make and fun, get out and show those legs a little sun! Getting your vitamin D from the sun in these awesome shorts? Why not!
4. The casual top
If you want something a little comfier and more casual, you can buy tops like this all over the nation, or bust out your DIY kit and make a tie-dye version of this top.
5. Get your vitamins
Who said national holidays had to be unhealthy? Get your fruit fix with these awesome flag-themed fruity kebabs! Your body and your nation will thank you. Okay, maybe just your body. If you’re really craving some sugar though, you might as well indulge in some…
We like the originality of having hearts instead of stars on this delicious looking cake. You could make a day of baking with friends and family, and then share in this yumminess together! Bonding time and national pride in one? We’re a fan! And oh my god, cake! We don’t really need an excuse to eat cake, but it feels better when there is one.
7. Patriotic Manicure
Finally, there is no better excuse than a national holiday to get a manicure. We think this one is super cute but there are so many possibilities, some more subtle and some more extravagant!
