July 4 th is rolling round and besides having hot dogs and watching fireworks, we have a few ideas of activities that you might enjoy doing on this day:
1. Watch Independence Day, the movie
Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith star in this 1996 movie about Aliens trying to steal all of Earth’s resources leading up to July 4 th . You can watch them kick butt and indulge in some 90s technology before watching…
2. Independence Day: Resurgence
20 years later, Earth needs to be rescued again, just days before July 4 th , again. Alongside Jeff Goldblum (YAY!), we also get to enjoy watching two hours of Liam Hemsworth (drool!) and the gorgeous, 23-year- old Maika Monroe. You can check out the trailer here.
3. Go down the healthy route
Blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream, blueberry pancakes with strawberry jam, red velvet cake with… oh never mind, we want to eat everything, healthy or not! There are so many delicious ways to combine the colors of the American flag, just take a look at some of these patriotic ideas on Yummly. How are those blue cookies with red and white sprinkles?!
4. Learn about history
You can learn about the first Europeans to reach the Americas, but also go further into history and learn about the tribes that lived here long before. Learn about the USA’s split from Britain and women’s right to vote, the civil war and the war in Iraq. You can also have a pop quiz with you friends and family to see who knows the most about the USA and hand out prizes to the winners.
5. Learn about society
A national holiday is as good a day as any, the best day even, to learn about the country. Take some time to learn about your society, to learn about the issues that affect different people in the country. How are women treated in different states? What rights do they have? Which laws are in place to protect them? How are minorities treated? What is the health care system like where you are? A national holiday is an excellent time to educate yourself on the state of affairs of your country and to find out how to make things even better.
6. Give back
How can you give back to society on this day, or leading up to it? An original thing to do in the name of your country would be to give back to society by organising a charity event or participating in one, donating clothes to Goodwill or other centers, and volunteering in some way to help others, like perhaps an animal shelter or whatever you feel passionate about. Doing something good for others is a great way to meet new people and to bond with friends too. A national holiday is the perfect day to show solidarity with other people and animals.
