A lot of people imagine having wild parties on New Year’s Eve that end up being the best night of their lives. While some people do have legendary nights, others have mixed experiences. It doesn’t always live up to the hype and some people just prefer to chill out… Here are 5 things we suggest doing on the last night of the year to make it a bit more special.
1. List the things you’re grateful for
You don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving to think about all the things you’re grateful for! New Year’s Eve is a perfect time to reflect on all the things that have made this last year great. If you feel like this year has sucked, it’s helpful to think about all the people and things in your life that have been good for you and that you don’t always think about. You can probably come up with at least a handful of acts of kindness and things you’re glad about! Start the new year with a positive mindset!
2. Have an Un-resolutions party
If you write a list of resolutions for the coming year – a list of things you want to change about yourself for the better – you could have an un-resolutions party where you do all the things that you’re trying to quit for one last night! Do you want to eat fewer cookies this year or watch less TV? Have a movie marathon and bake some cookies with your friends! Do you want to work out more? Take it easy! Let your hair down for one last night before the new year. The get to work the next day!
3. Go for a midnight walk
What better place to welcome the new year than beneath the stars? Why not grab your woollies, a thermos full of hot cocoa and your best friend and head out for a midnight walk to reflect upon our beautiful, delicate existence? If you’re feeling energetic, you could even wait up to watch the sunrise from the top of a hill.
4. Think about what you want to achieve
Sort of like a resolutions list, but more general, you could write a list of things you want to achieve this year – even if some of those things are likely to happen anyway, like passing to the next grade in school. It feels great to acknowledge your achievements and to strike them off your list. Write it all down on a piece of paper and hang that paper somewhere you can see it every day, like a mirror in your room. This way, you’ll be motivated every day to stick to your guns.
5. Have a karaoke party
There are loads of games for the singers out there who want to make a party out of it, and it’s a fun and silly way to pass the night. Serenade your friends, family and dog. Just make sure no one films it!
6. Play some good old fashioned games
This one might seem super obvious, but board games are underrated! There’s no greater glue in society sometimes than a good card or board game. Even Yahtzee can get really heated. Add in some nice mocktails and cocktails and you’re all set!
